A Sunday reset for two-job parents who have no free morning

If you both work, Sunday morning is catch-up. Sit after the children are down. Write pickup, three dinners, and two real breaks.

If you both work, Sunday morning is not a reset. It is catch-up: laundry, a grocery run, a child who has been waiting all week to be looked at. By Sunday night you are more tired than Friday, and Monday still arrives.

This page is only for two-job households. Not a pretty Sunday. Not a stay-at-home schedule. Twenty-five minutes after the children are down, so pickup and dinners have names before the week starts.

Who this is for

Parents who both leave the house for work, or one who works nights. You have daycare, a school run, or a sitter. You do not have a free Sunday morning, and you should stop pretending you do.

When to sit

Sit on Sunday after bath, or on Monday at 6:30 a.m. if Sunday is gone. Set a timer for twenty-five minutes. Phones in another room. You are not decorating a notebook. You are assigning the week.

  1. Pickup and drop-off. Write who does each day. If a day is shared, write the time of the handoff.
  2. Three tired dinners. Food you can make after a full day. Leftovers count.
  3. The form that will explode. One school email, one bill, one reply. One owner.
  4. Two real breaks. One for each adult. Thirty minutes that the other person covers. Write the night.

I wrote pickup and two breaks. Can you change one line if I got a day wrong?

If they change a line, accept it. If they will not sit, send the note anyway. A week with names is still better than a week of “I thought you were doing it.”

Two questions

What if one of us travels this week?

Write the travel days first. The person at home gets a named break on one of those nights, even if a grandparent or a sitter is the cover. Travel is not a free pass to disappear from the list.

What if we only have ten minutes?

Then write pickup and one dinner. Ten minutes of names beats a whole Sunday of guilt.
